Sports Massage
JOHN HOLTON
Hello I am John and I have been a massage therapist 18 years. I offer sports and remedial massage sessions for muscle aches and pains, as well as a more relaxing Swedish massage to help you unwind.
REMEDIAL MASSAGE
This is an umbrella term for a wide range of soft tissue techniques that aim to improve posture and flexibility, relieve sore muscles, prevent and or manage injury and improve sports performance.
SWEDISH MASSAGE
Swedish massage consists of a gentle, gliding pressure continuously applied along the upper and lower back, over your shoulders and arms, and legs. The massage involves both the back and front sides of the body.
This massage session will cover all of the body's major muscle groups.
If you prefer, you can have just a relaxing back massage, which would last approximately 30 minutes.
The techniques that are used include: effleurage or the smooth gliding movements meant to relax; petrissage, which means lifting, squeezing, wringing or kneading the muscle tissues; friction or the rubbing pressure created using the fingertips to target muscle stiffness; and tapotement, which is the rhythmic pounding that stimulates the tissues.
Questions often asked when should I see a Remedial Massage Therapist?
If you have pain or tightness in an area of your body and there is no sign of getting better on its own.
For tight or sore muscles.
Prevention or management of injury and/or improve your sports performance,
You are not sure about your posture and are looking for ways to improve.
If you have lower back pain, headaches or pain in any of your joints including neck, shoulders, elbows, hips, knees or ankles.
If you want to improve your flexibility.
If you are stretching and but feel like you are just not getting anywhere!
If getting someone else to loosen up your muscles for you rather than constantly having to stretch sounds like a great idea!
Techniques Include
Deep tissue massage and trigger point therapy
Joint mobilisations and myofascial release, assisted stretching
As a fully qualified fitness instructor I can also offer strengthening exercised and stretching techniques between appointments, to help speed up your recovery.
Chiropractic is a primary health care profession concerned with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system, and the effects of these disorders on the functions of the nervous system and general health.
Chiropractic works by identifying the underlying cause of pain and correcting it, unlike painkilling drugs, which only address the symptoms. By restoring normal function to the musculoskeletal system where possible, chiropractors can play a major part in relieving discomfort, and any accompanying pain arising from accidents, stress, lack of exercise, poor posture and the everyday wear and tear that happens to all of us.
Chiropractic care offers a natural approach to the treatment of many common conditions which is proven to be safe and effective. The treatment is tailored to each patient’s age, condition and spinal needs. Chiropractic can provide a long-term solution, not just a quick, but temporary, fix.
Chiropractic is a healthcare profession that focuses on diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system, with special emphasis on the spine. It emphasises manual therapy including spinal manipulation and other joint and soft-tissue manipulation as well as exercises and health and lifestyle counselling.
Chiropractors are regulated by statute by the General Chiropractic Council (GCC)
How does chiropractic work?
Your spinal column is made up of 24 moveable vertebrae, the sacrum and the coccyx. The column houses the spinal cord through which nerves are transmitted to the rest of your body. Whilst the spinal column maintains the correct alignment, nerve information is passed accurately.
However, if any part of your spinal column becomes misaligned then a nerve may become impinged, compressed or stretched, distorting the information that passes along it. This can lead to pain, discomfort or restricted mobility.
A chiropractor manipulates the spine and joints of the body to realign the skeletal frame. This aims to restore normal alignment and motion which relieves the effects on joints, reduces muscles spasms and ensures nerve signals flow freely around the body. Chiropractors use their hands to make an ‘adjustment’ directly to the bones involved. The key to the success of the adjustments is the speed, dexterity and accuracy with which they are performed. Through these subtle adjustments, chiropractic treatment can relieve pain and provide a route to better health.

PRESS RELEASE
Robert Caffrey-Hill from The Clinic appears in Leaders Council podcast alongside Geoff Hurst.
The Leaders Council of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is currently in the process of talking to leadership figures from across the nation in an attempt to understand this universal trait and what it means in Britain and Northern Ireland today.
Robert Caffrey-Hill from The Clinic was invited onto an episode of the podcast, which also included an interview with Geoff Hurst. Host Matthew O'Neill asked both guests a series of questions about leadership and the role it has played in their careers to date.
Matthew O'Neill commented, ‘Hosting a show like this, where you speak to genuine leaders who have been there and done it, either on a national stage or within a crucial industry sector, is an absolute honour.’
Lord Blunkett, chairman of The Leaders Council of Great Britain and Northern Ireland said, ‘I think the most informative element of each episode is the first part, where Matthew O'Neill is able to sit down with someone who really gets how their industry works and knows how to make their organisation tick. Someone who’s there day in day out working hard and inspiring others. That’s what leadership is all about.’
